Common Questions - Submitting products for review

Below are the key questions we get asked about our reviewing procedures and policies:

Do I have to pay in order to submit a product for review?

No. Action Media's review scheme is free of charge. However, we welcome any corresponding giveaway opportunities that may present themselves. These giveaways drive newsstand sales of the magazine, which ultimately funds our reviewing facilities.

Which publications do you accept review product for?

At this stage we are just reviewing products in NetGuide, ConnectMe, Start-Up, GameConsole and MacGuide, but later on we are considering reviews for our other business publications.

What does participation in the review scheme get me?

Products submitted for review in the magazine will receive at least half a page of coverage, which will feature up to two high-resolution images of the product along with a discussion detailing the product's features, specifications, pros and cons. All products reviewed also participate in our new ‘rosette' scheme, and will be eligible to receive any of a number of awards, which you're welcome to use in your own marketing for the product in question. Action Media is happy to provide the rosette artwork shown below to you upon request.



What happens to the review product?

Products over $500 in value will be returned to the supplier. Generally speaking, products under that value will be kept by Action Media and auctioned some three months after the publication of the review as a means of supplementing the review facility and the time spent on the piece.

Will participation guarantee a good review? And can we see the review before it is published?

No on both counts. The review process will be impartial and no further correspondence may be entered. Action Media endeavours for the review process to be fair and based on comprehensive and knowledgeable testing.

If I submit product for review, is it guaranteed to be published?

Vendors, distributors and PR agencies are welcome to submit products and press releases to Action Media for consideration. However, if only a press release is provided, we will consider the product for inclusion as an announcement. The announcements provide less substantial coverage with little-to-no discussion, a small image and release details only. Inclusion in the announcements section is limited and at the discretion of Action Media. Alternatively, products supplied for review will have a much greater chance of inclusion.

Are any products excluded from the reviews ?

Yes, products focused on corporate or enterprise customers will not be reviewed, as well as electronic components and services like SaaS solutions. This is because we don't have the facilities or expertise to review these type of products and that they aren't relevant to our audience. Remember at this stage we are only accepting reviews for the following consumer focused publications: NetGuide, ConnectMe, GameConsole and MacGuide.

Can we arrange a joint advertising/review deal?

No. The review scheme will operate independently from advertising sales.

How does the Rosette scheme work?

During the course of testing, the Reviews Editor will assign various rosette awards to certain review products where we feel it is appropriate. These will be displayed alongside the reviewed product in question, and the artwork can be supplied to you upon request.
